Social Skills Groups

Reining In Social Skills

By Melanie McDonald (CCC/SLP) and Morgan McDonald (Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor, SLP-A)

Monthly Groups

Summer Programs

Activities Include:

Speech Therapy, Social Skills, Horseback Riding, Games, Friendship Groups, Team-Work Building, Field Trips, Celebration of Birthdays, and Animal Interactions

Participants will learn social skills to effectively share space with others.  They will be taught to think about others in everyday settings, and learn to regulate and adjust their own behavior in certain situations.  Participants will do this in a fun environment with peers, Speech therapists, Therapeutic Riding Instructors and on trained therapeutic riding horses.  There will be fun and games, all while learning important social skills.  The goals of these programs will include positive social behavior strategies from proven programs.  The days will include skills in cognitive planning, listening, conversing, making positive impressions, understanding others’ perspectives, using good manners in everyday interactions, personal problem solving, understanding relationships, and developing and maintaining friendships. Parents and care takers will learn great strategies to reinforce good social behavior at home. All of this takes place with the beautiful surroundings of Pinnacle Equestrian, on and off horses, alongside peers.

This will be taught by a licensed and certified Speech/Language Pathologist, paired with Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors, also with a background in Communication Disorders.
